Kitty Waybright, O.W.S., P.W.S. - Working in transparent watercolor, using a strong light and shadow pattern allows me to see and feel a subject regardless of its shape or actual form.  I emphasize shadows, letting their shapes build up form.  I start first with shadows that are painted very light, and once basic shapes are established it is push  and pull all over the paper, building darks by glazing layers of color.

                      Compton Coal Auger

Size 21x28 inches, watercolor $1200.  Part of huge coal auger used in WV to mine coal. Was built by owner W. Compton in 1948.

Size 21x28 inches, watercolor $1200. from Shay series, built for logging industry.  These Shays are at Cass, WV, working as a tourist attraction.
